PROTECTION CLASS | DESCRIPTION |
---|---|
FFP2 | (94.5% Filtration Efficiency) Suitable for protection against toxic contaminants up to concentrations of 12 x OEL or 12 x APF. |
FFP3 | (99% Filtration Efficiency) Suitable for protection against toxic contaminants up to concentrations of 50 x OEL or 20 x APF. |
OEL = Occupational Exposure Limit
APF = Assigned Protection Factor

NPF – NOMINAL PROTECTION FACTOR & APF – ASSIGNED PROTECTION FACTOR
The Nominal Protection Factor (NPF) is the theoretical level of protection determined under laboratory test conditions. The Assigned Protection Factor (APF), on the other hand, reflects the minimum protection level provided by a properly fitted and well-supervised respirator in real-world conditions.
Measuring and tracking APF performance is not always easy, as it is based on average estimations. APF values are approximately 4 x OEL for P1 filters, 10 x OEL for P2 filters, and 20 x OEL for P3 filters.
When evaluating mask protection levels, considering APF values is a more reliable approach.
